Letter to Stephen Van Rensselaer discussing the recent selection of a candidate for the New York State Assembly from the Town of Bethlehem, Albany County, N.Y. Gansevoort complains that the "mode which they have adopted of choosing the candidates by ballot is novel and cannot be submitted to as it is an abandonment of the principle which ought to govern."
